Whats the bag baby?

It's my bag baby. Here are the contents that get me through work and school days. Am I pack rat... maybe a little. Am I always prepared? Hell yeah!

My beautiful falling apart pink backpack.

Most of my stuff is in the large front pocket.

Here are my boxes. One contains tampons, one has pens and pencils and the other has miscellaneous band-aids, paper clips, emergency money, tape measure, emery board, nail clippers, mirror, comb and hair ties. The clear vinyl bag has sunblock, hand sanitizer, dental floss, deodorant, gum, a tooth brush and toothpaste.

Sketch journal

Wallet, pills, cotton balls, cell phone, first aid kit, Weight Watchers point calculator and notebook.

My beautiful bird day planner.

A spiral bound notebook, my laptop and my reusable Starbucks cup live in the main pocket and cup pouch respectively.

And there you go, that is my portable world.

Ta Da!

So here is my "Fashion Show"

Here are some of the hair clips I made. The pictures aren't great; my camera is no longer focusing well.

Fake Flowers and Real Charm

So here is the culmination of a project I have been excited about for awhile.
Silk flower hair pieces. Originally I was going to use feathers too, and I may in the future, but this batch is cruelty free.

Here I am all set up and ready to glue. Things I learned: Hot glue is the only way to go, stiffened felt is a wonderful backer, and patience is essential.

You can see here how I attached the clips to the flowers. I was a little unsure about these clips, I bought them at JoAnne Fabrics, but they really stay in my hair (which is fine, but I have a lot of it) and they come in a couple useful sizes.

This rose came all the way from Japanland! And it looks lovely in my hair.

Fashion show to follow!

Babbling Brook Blog Give Away

Babbling Book is giving away some uber great prizes!

First Feather Project

So here is my first feather project. I took a headband I got from Claire's for about a dollar and glued the peacock feathers to it. The feathers were already glued to a felt pad, and arranged as you can see in the post below. This is nice as it means I don't have to glue the feathers individually.

However, as I was gluing the pad onto the headband, I got some glue on the feathers! That's me being impatient again. So I had to get two more peacock feathers and insert them to cover up the feathers that got discolored by the dried glue.

Here I am modeling my crafty head gear.

*Cheers*

The feathers have arrived.

So my feathers finally arrived from the far east. I only know what I am going to do with the peacock feathers. The others...I dunno.

The "pheasant" feathers are actually rooster feathers, but since I like rooster feathers I'm ok with that. I am guessing it is either a communication failure or the people selling the feathers assume people can't tell a pheasant from a rooster.

They have also been dyed green. Man I wish I knew what to do with them. I have about 50.

Anyway, if you have any ideas send them on over.

*Cheers*

Here is my (maybe long awaited) surprise post: I'm having a giveaway again! The reasons: I've got more than 100 followers now, and it's summer! And since I'm leaving for Japan in November I decided to clean out my entire room and found some nice items I'd like to give away! Yes, all items of this giveaway are from my room and more or less from Japan XD Most of the items are absolutely new and unused (I still ask myself why I never used them :-) Have a look, and if you like, you can enter, of course! :-) I wish you all good luck!

Here are the rules:
1. You must be a follower (new followers are welcome, too).
2. For one entry leave a comment saying: Enter Me! Give me your name and email address, too!
3. For 2 additional entries link my giveaway on your blog or on any other net platform (Facebook, Twitter etc.) and post that link.
4. Put all of your information in ONE comment! (that makes counting a little bit easier for me!)
5. The giveaway will close on August, 1. The winners will be drawn randomly.
6. There will be secret prizes, too!

Now I want to say thank you to all of my readers and followers at this place! My blog wouldn't be anything without you, thank you for your support so far. I will give my best to make everything more interesting! And think about the giveways I can hold when I'm in Japan! (Well, it is still a bit until then, though! Maybe for Christmas??) Okay, now your surely wanna know what you can win, right? Have a go! (I'm sorry for the bad quality of the fotos! Hope you can see everything.)

Who you callin' crazy?

So here's the thing. I love quilts. I love textiles in general, but any large blanket really gets to me. I actually went to a textile exhibit at a museum on date. Best date ever (it didn't end up working out with the guy, but oh well).

So after some initial fears and insecurities, and realizing that no one was going to make me quilts, I decided to make my own. (Pics will be in a later post). My first attempt, was a lot like my other craft projects; decently designed and moderately executed. I get really impatient, and sloppy and while it is initially impressive that anything gets made at all, its often a rather "junior high" sort of result. Not that my very first quilt isn't on my bed this very moment, its just not anything a quilter would be even a little impressed by.

So now I am starting a crazy quilt. Its going to be an 8ft by 8ft blanket, bright, colorful and perfect for taking on a picnic.

This is the pattern I have drawn out. Each square on the paper represents a 4" by 4" square of fabric. I bought pre-cut fabric squares on eBay. I selected two patterns I liked and thought when well enough together. 4 packages of Botany, and 4 packages of Tweet Tweet. Each package comes with 42 5" by 5" squares. The squares will be 4.5" by 4.5" when I am done, due to the 1/4" seem edge that will get taken up when I sew the squares together. 1/4" taken from each side will shrink the squares. The part of the pattern that isn't blocked into squares are going to be solid pieces of fabric. Because the patterns are so varied and busy I felt that breaking up the squares with some solid lines would make the overall quilt look less overwhelming. I will probably use some brown calico, but I haven't decided anything just yet.

The black fabric they are sitting on is the fabric that will be on the back of the quilt. The black fabric was originally for another quilt... a terrible project that I have to completely start over on. :( The black works here, because it is a complete contrast to any of the quilt squares, but isn't too discordant. I wanted something that looked nice if I decided to use the less busy side of the quilt, and also wouldn't class with the main color scheme.

Because the two sets of squares are different (4 Tweet Tweet and 4 Botany = 336 squares total) are different some care does go into laying them out. As you can see from my pattern, there are large areas where there are many squares next to each other. Crazy doesn't have to mean ugly, so I carefully lay out the squares in a random, yet pleasing set.

After I lay out the initial block, I pin rows together. In this case it is 8 rows of 8 squares. When the rows are pinned together, I number them with a small piece of paper at the end. This makes sure the squares stay as I have laid them out, and that even if my bag tips over and everything spills out, I can easily assemble the block and start sewing.

After I sew the squares into rows, and sew the rows into a block, I will have the center part of my quilt!

I am resisting the urge to say "Ta Da!" It is not yet "Ta Da!" time yet. Soon though... soon...

If I am being creative, then I must be at home.

This is my real first post. Here are a couple of pictures to give the shallowest impression of my creative designs. What I like to do and whatnot. I will strenuously avoid justifying my projects. I will explain my motivations, but who the heck needs to justify why they create? No one! Hah!

Anyway... here is your first peak.

This is my sewing station. A cheap desk chair, an inexpensive sewing machine and time are just about everything I need when it comes to quilting and other sewing crafts. I have almost no idea how to use my sewing machine to it's fullest capacity. Hints and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

No, these items aren't stacked decoratively, this is how many of my crafting supplies are kept. This stack just happens to look decorative and manufactured. The fact that it hasn't fallen over is what makes it a attractive to me.

In addition to sewing, felting, knitting and crocheting, I love to draw (ok doodle is more accurate), and have a grand plan to write a children's novel soon. It will most likely have birds in it, and they will probably talk, in English, because I really enjoy talking animals.

This is a plate I painted a local paint and take pottery studio. It was a gift from my sister for my birthday. I think it would be neat to do a whole alphabet in whimsical plates. Raechel (my sister) thinks it would be neat to do my whole name. Either way its a great excuse to spend time and money at one of my favorite stores in downtown Olympia.

Next post... My Crazy Quilt! (and its rather sad beginning) Stay tuned!
